$39 million Mega Millions jackpot won by a player in Florida

For the second time in a week a player in Florida has won the Mega Millions jackpot, as a lucky player matched all five balls and the Mega Ball to win a $39 million grand prize for the drawing held on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The winning numbers are: 18-39-42-57-63

The big win comes just a week after a lone ticket sold in Florida won a Mega Millions record jackpot worth $1.602 billion. It also marks the third time this year that back-to-back jackpots have been won in the same state. Earlier this year, consecutive jackpots were won in New York as a $483 million prize was won on April 14 and a $20 million prize was won on April 18. In January, a $33 million jackpot and a $31 million grand prize were won on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 respectively.

It’s been a busy year for the Mega Millions game as Tuesday night’s win marks the eighth time this year a jackpot has been won, the most since 2016. There have been two jackpots won that were worth at least $1 billion with the first coming on Jan. 14 when a $1.348 billion prize was won in Maine.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Warren 2021 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
